'Speed, Impairment' Factors in I-20 Fatality, Police Say

Douglasville Police said a motorcyclist was killed early Sunday morning after he was struck from behind near Fairburn Road.

Douglasville Police have in custody an Alabama man they believe is responsible for an early Sunday morning traffic fatality on Interstate 20.

Police identified the man as Jason Wooten, who was allegedly driving an Infiniti G37 when it struck the rear of a Yamaha motorcycle on westbound I-20 near the Fairburn Road exit around 3:20 a.m.

The driver of the motorcycle, a male, was killed in the crash, and his female passenger was taken to the hospital in serious condition, police said in a news release posted on Facebook. Their names were not being released, pending notification of next of kin.

Police said the infinit left the scene and was located in the emergency lane near the Highway 5 exit. Wooten, who fled the car, was taken into custody near the Sears store at Arbor Place Mall, according to the news release.

“The accident is still under investigation and the cause is not yet known,” police said in the news release. “Speed and driver impairment do appear to be factors in the accident.
