The Summit Family YMCA Celebrates "Welcoming Week"

The event celebrates immigrants and their contributions to the community

Written by Kali Mann

NEWNAN-During the week of September 17-23, The YMCA of Metro Atlanta hosted its annual "Welcoming Week." The event brought both immigrants and US-born citizens to their local YMCAs to get to know one and other and celebrate what unites them as a community.Members were encouraged to bring their friends and neighbors to the Y to take advantage of special promotions such as a 5-day guest pass.

"Summit Family YMCA’s Welcome Week was awesome," said Vikki Mitchell, assistant director of membership at the Summit Y. "Our members danced to international music in the lobby, play center and early learning center, we hosted a Spanish and African celebration, and we also had an international potluck! We hope our Statue of Liberty in the lobby made all immigrants truly feel welcomed here in the USA and at the Summit Family YMCA."
