We're Refurbishing Your Trophies

Douglas County Parks and Recreation is looking for your new and used trophies that can be given away during the Special Olympics Allen Langford Memorial Bocce/Softball Invitational at Boundary Waters on Oct. 1.

is looking for your new and used trophies that can be given away during the Special Olympics Allen Langford Memorial Bocce/Softball Invitational at on Oct. 1. 

Volunteers will be accepting trophies, cleaning and refurbishing them today until 4 p.m., at the Skate Center at in the mini-golf area. Donations will be accepted until 9 p.m. at the park's main activity center everyday until Sept. 25.

"More than anything, right now, we need volunteers to donate their time and energy to cleaning and refurbishing the trophies," Christie Mills said, therapeutic recreation program coordinator. "We'll also be taking any extra trophies we get and disassembling them for parts for trophies to hand out next year.

"This is one of our big recycling efforts to try and keep costs down," she said. "This is the third year we've done this and, by far, this has been the best response. This year we probably had 500 more trophies donated but really need more people to donate their time so we can disassemble and refurbish them."
