WGTC Women Defeat Chatt Tech, Drop Close One to Andrew; Men Fall to Chatt Tech

The West Georgia Tech women’s basketball team went 1-1 over the weekend which included a big 70-47 victory over NJCAA DI member Chattahoochee Tech on Friday.

The Golden Knights dropped a 61-55 decision on the road at Andrew College the next day to fall to 2-3 on the season, all against NJCAA DI competition.

Meanwhile the West Georgia Tech men lost to Chattahoochee Tech Friday night, 101-85.

Women’s Basketball: WGTC 70, Chattahoochee Tech 47 (FRIDAY)

Kadriana Howard scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Golden Knights (2-2) to a big win over Chattahoochee Tech (2-1), 70-47. She had a team-leading seven steals in the contest.

Jasmine Williams scored 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

Kelsey Walthall added 13 points and five rebounds in limited minutes due to foul trouble.

Women’s Basketball: Andrew College 61, WGTC 55 (SATURDAY)

The West Georgia Tech women led 27-16 at the half but could not hold the lead, dropping a 61-55 decision to host Andrew College on Saturday afternoon.

Jasmine Williams scored nine points while Mahogany Harris and Kadriana Howard each scored eight points to lead the way for the Golden Knights (2-3).

WGTC forced 36 turnovers. Ten different WGTC players had at least one steal, led by Howard with six.

Both teams shot less than 30 percent from the field.

"Our girls played hard and at times we played well," WGTC head coach Kenny Edwards said. "I think we ran out of gas a little bit in the Andrew game because we played so much basketball over the last week. But that is something we'll have to get used to, and get better at. We really played well against Chattahoochee Tech, we played our style of basketball. But we got away from that a little bit against Andrew, especially in the second half."

Men’s Basketball: Chattahoochee Tech 101, WGTC 85 (FRIDAY)

West Georgia Tech (0-3) dropped a 101-85 decision to Chattahoochee Tech (3-0) on Friday, despite a 20-point effort from Orlandis Hill.

Hill went 5-of-12 from the field and was 3-of-5 from three-point range. He has led WGTC in scoring in all three of its games so far this season.

Shaquille Davis added 15 points and Ryan Jones scored 10 points to round out the double-figure scoring for the Golden Knights.

West Georgia Tech shot 46 percent from the field (27-of-59). Chattahoochee Tech led 57-47 at halftime.

Both teams are in action tonight. The WGTC women will host the junior varsity squad from Faulkner University at Oak Mountain Academy. Tip-time is 6 p.m.

The WGTC men will travel to Cleveland, Ga. for a 7 p.m. tip against Truett-McConnell.
