WGTC Women's Basketball Opens Season Today Against South GA Tech
West Georgia Tech will take on two NJCAA D-I programs in the event, starting with Friday's matchup against South Georgia Tech at 4 p.m.

The 2013-14 campaign tips off today for the West Georgia Technical College Golden Knights women’s basketball program as they participate in the Darton State College Classic in Albany, GA.
West Georgia Tech will take on two NJCAA D-I programs in the event, starting with Friday’s matchup against South Georgia Tech at 4 p.m. The Golden Knights will meet tournament-host Darton State at noon on Saturday.
WGTC, led by second-year head coach Kenny Edwards, is coming off a 14-14 season last year which saw them finish in tie for first place in the GCAA/Region 17 standings.

“I am excited about the upcoming season as we continue to build this program,” Edwards said. “We had a nice recruiting class in the off-season with a great group of freshmen and a couple of key sophomore transfers.”
The Golden Knights were picked to finish first in the Region in the preseason coaches poll, just ahead of Georgia Northwestern.

Sophomore transfers Kelsea Walthal and Kadriana Howard were named to the GCAA/Region 17 Preseason All-Region First Team.
Following this weekend’s action, the Golden Knights will travel to Wadley, Ala. for a matchup with Southern Union next Tuesday.
The home-opener for the Golden Knights is Nov. 8, against Chattahoochee Tech at Oak Mountain Academy in Carrollton.
