Woman Stole 100 Cellphones From Sam's Club In Douglasville, Prosecutors Say

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A woman has been convicted of using people's personal information to open more than 100 cell phone accounts and taking the phones from a Douglasville Sam's Club, prosecutors said Monday.

A jury on Friday found Darlita Lynette McKeever guilty of theft by taking, identity fraud and other charges in connection with the incident, Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine's office said.

This comes about six years after McKeever was arrested on Sept. 24, 2020, prosecutors said. Both Walmart Global Investigations and Douglasville Police looked into the matter.

Investigators determined McKeever worked at the Concourse Parkway Sam's Club when she opened at least 100 Sprint cellular accounts using fake identities and the personal information of others without their permission, prosecutors said.

They added she then took the cellphones linked to the fraudulently opened accounts.

A jury found McKeever guilty of five counts of theft by taking, four counts of identity fraud and two counts of theft by deception, prosecutors said. She is set to be sentenced at a later date.

“Identity fraud is not a victimless crime," Racine said in a news release. "It violates an individual’s privacy and sense of security. This verdict holds the defendant responsible for abusing her position and using the personal information of others for her own benefit. I commend our trial team and law enforcement partners for their diligent work in securing justice in this case.”
