Bites Nearby: Barnacles

A bar, nightclub and seafood restaurant with a 20-year history.

This week's Bites Nearby focuses on a Duluth fixture established in 1991.

-- Barnacles is quite a few things, but it is a bar and nightclub, first and foremost. You must be at least 18 to enter, and 21 to enter after 9pm. There is a $5 cover to enter after 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Smoking is permitted indoors, and a live DJ spins five nights a week. The other two nights are dedicated to team trivia and karaoke. That being said, Barnacles features a full menu and a kitchen that is open until the wee hours of the morning. Most of the menu offerings are fairly typical bar food like chicken wings and burgers, but they also serve a lot of tasty seafood and steaks. They've got items like oysters on the half-shell (served raw or steamed), tuna, mahi mahi, crab legs, and crawfish. They run a different food promotion daily with great prices, such as 35 cent wings or shrimp and 75 cent oysters on Mondays. There is also a discounted "Happy Hour" menu available from 4-6 p.m. In addition to all this, Barnacles has a multitude of TVs screening sporting events, a game room and an arcade. Barnacles is located right by Gwinnett Place Mall at 2125 Market Street, Duluth, GA 30096. Telephone: 770-418-9510. Barnacles is open Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m.-1 a.m.; Wednesday, 11 a.m.-midnight; Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m.-2:30 a.m.; Saturday, noon-2:30 a.m.; Sunday, noon-midnight. A full menu and more information is available on the Barnacles website.
