Death Cafe' Gwinnett encourages people to talk about death.

Conversation and cake at Death Cafe Gwinnett. Providing a safe and open place for everyone to discuss death, dying and of course living.

Death Cafe Gwinnett, Duluth, GA—Georgia Cremation, 3116 Buford Highway, will host the upcoming Death Café Gwinnett on Saturday, April 30th from 2 to 4 pm in the Community Room/Events Center.

“At Death Cafes, people drink tea, eat cake and discuss death openly and creatively in an effort to increase awareness of death to help people make the most of their lives,” said Jeremy Watkins, service counselor with Georgia Cremation. “No sales pitches. No product demonstrations. Just straight-forward conversation about something that will happen to all of us.”

At the Death Café Gwinnett, participants can bring questions about death and dying. There will be large and small group discussions. Cake and coffee will be served.

The first Death Café was held in London in September 2011. Since then, Death Cafes have been held in a range of places including funky cafes, people's houses, cemeteries, a yurt and the Royal Festival Hall. The first Death Café held in the United States took place in Columbus, Ohio. Events have also taken place throughout Europe, Asia and Australia. This is the third Death Cafe Gwinnett to be held.

In 2010, Jon Underwood decided to develop a series of projects about death. In November, Jon read about the work of Bernard Crettaz in the Independent newspaper. Inspired by Bernard's work, Jon immediately decided to use similar model for his own project, and Death Cafe was born. The first Death Café in the US was in Columbus, Ohio.
