Happy Tuesday, neighbors! Here's what's happening today in town.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 74 Low: 49.

Here are the top stories in Duluth today:

  1. A Gwinnett man has been convicted of felony murder after dealing drugs that were laced with Fentanyl. His convictions are a first for Gwinnett County. The county has never gone after a street-level dealer for dealing the poison to their clients even though Fentanyl deaths in Georgia have been on the rise in the past year. This time, they were able to catch him and sentence him to life in prison. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. Check out this Duluth estate in the Sugarloaf Country Club that is now on the market! It has sports classic architecture, a gourmet kitchen, over 8,000 square feet of space, a theater, and more. The home is listed on Zillow for over $1,000,000. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  3. Many Georgia colleges are seeking to fill many student needs as the enrollment of Latinx students is increasing. At our own Georgia Gwinnett College, students have organized "Una Noche de Liderazgo," or "a night of leadership," where they were able to network and connect with people from their own culture. In addition to this, GGC has created a program called HACER which focuses on giving students and faculty mentors, bilingual advisers, study abroad opportunities, and learning-living spaces for Hispanic students. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  4. Our local YMCA has opened an anecdotal store at the JA Discovery Center to teach students about childcare costs. This store will be available to Gwinnett County students and is intended to help guide students through the trials of life before leaving their parents' homes. 5. Everyone evacuated the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center after a suspicious package arrived on Friday. When emergency services arrived, they found that the package contained a dextrose-based substance that was considered to be non-hazardous and allowed everyone to re-enter the building without any injuries.
