Gwinnett appoints new HRC members

The Human Relations Commission promotes race relations in Gwinnett County.

The Gwinnett County Commission appointed a prosecutor, college administrator and disabled veteran to the Gwinnett County Human Relations Commission.

The County Commission unanimously approved the appointments of Megan Matteucci, Brian J. Powell and Sean Hayes on Aug. 16. Each will serve a four-year term.

Matteucci, of Duluth, works as an Assistant District Attorney in DeKalb County. She previously served as an assistant solicitor in Gwinnett County. Before graduating from law school, Matteucci worked as a reporter for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Powell, of Lawrenceville, serves as the veterans resource advocate at Gwinnett Technical College, where he works closely with student veterans. Powell, who has a masters’ degree in education, previously worked at Georgia Perimeter College as a student affairs counselor.

Hayes, a disabled veteran, served with the U.S. Marine Corps and is CEO of Semper Solutions LLC, a technology consulting business. Hayes, of Lawrenceville, attends Georgia Gwinnett College. He also works to provide resources to disabled and homeless veterans throughout Gwinnett.

The 13-member Human Relations Commissions works to ensure government services are available to all residents, regardless of race, gender or national origin. The commission coordinates with government agencies to promote better race relations in Gwinnett. The commission also investigates discrimination complaints.
