Hot Air Balloons Decorate Duluth

Decorated art featured in outdoor exhibit on buildings and in trees in downtown Saturday.

Historic Downtown Duluth merchants are hosting a Main Street Open House and outdoor art exhibit Saturday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in celebration of the now nine new businesses that have come to Duluth.

For the first time in many years, all of the old buildings are occupied, and the merchants are very excited about the renewed spirit in downtown Duluth. "It brings a smile to my heart that the community has exceeded our expectations to participate by decorating hot air balloons, the theme of the Main Street Open House," said Community Volunteer League director and art exhibit organizer Shelly Howard.

The CVL, a subcommittee of the Downtown Development Authority, organized the hot air balloon exhibit and downtown promotion. The decorated hot air balloons will hang from trees and buildings throughout the downtown area for 30 days including during the Duluth Fall Festival next weekend (Sept. 24-25).

Bobbie Flowers, owner of Luv for Art, one of the new businesses, facilitated the decorating and collection of the miniature hot air balloon forms. "The balloons are amazing works of art and express everyone's creativity and unique interpretation of the essence of the event. As a new business on Main Street, I am taken a back by how the community stepped up and got involved."

Visit the shops during the Main Street Open House Saturday and enjoy the talents of our community through the outdoor art exhibit. Beautiful art, shopping discounts and a downtown celebration will offer a great day in Historic Duluth.
