Plantation South Hosts April Duluth Merchants Meeting

New members including Duluth Patch welcomed. Korean-American Chamber donates bingo prizes.

Plantation South, a nonprofit assisted living residence located off Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth, graciously hosted the Duluth Merchants Association’s April 5 meeting. A reception preceded the business meeting at which new members including Duluth Patch were introduced by DMA President Sunny Ramsay. Attending were Patch advertising representative Yao Carr and Duluth Patch Editor Faye Edmundson. 

Karen Hartson, community relations director for Plantation South, informed DMA members that the facility offers independent and assisted living. Residents with mild Alzheimer’s Disease can also be accommodated, she said. In addition, an adult day care/caregiver respite program for senior citizens is available. A week-long day camp with special crafts and activities will be offered in June.

Recently renovated Plantation South has 61 residences with varying floor plans. Fifty are currently occupied, according to Hartson, with residents ranging in age from 67 to 102.

Volunteers are invited to visit with residents, assist with fund-raisers and call bingo games, Hartson said. Donations are needed for bingo prizes including scarves, jewelry, socks, picture frames, etc. Boxes of tissue and grooming items are always welcome.

Andy Kim, senior vice president of the Korean-American Chamber of Commerce of Georgia, pledged to donate a month’s worth of prizes for the thrice weekly bingo games. The Korean-American Chamber has been active in the Atlanta area for 36 years and has 300 members, Kim said. It works closely with the City of Duluth through the Korean Task Force. In addition to the city, honorary chamber members include Coca-Cola, Home Depot and Comcast, he said.

Lindsay Harmon, corporate and retail sales coordinator for the Gwinnett Braves, extended an invitation for DMA members to attend Duluth Night at the Gwinnett Braves April 28 at Coolray Field. Discount $6, $8, and $12 tickets are available for individuals. To order discount tickets, use the promo code DULUTH.  A special $300 package is offered to businesses.

The DMA provides a $1,000 scholarship to a Duluth High School senior planning to major in business. Scholarship forms are available through the high school.
