Train Ride into History

Oct 4th -The Piedmont Limited ~ Atlanta, GA to Toccoa, GA - This train will be pulled by steam locomotive #4501 with diesel assistance over Norfolk Southern’s Piedmont Division main line (former Southern Railway) on a 180-mile round trip.  Passengers can detrain in Toccoa at the Amtrak platform for a two-hour layover to seek out lunch, shop at local stores, visit the Currahee Military Museum (housed in the Toccoa Railroad Station), or explore the area. 

The Atlanta Chapter National Railroad Historic Society and the Southeastern Railway Museum are pleased to announce that we have secured a limited number of tickets for this excursion. Our seating for this trip will be in the “Deluxe Coach” class which is in climate controlled vintage cars with reclining back seats.

Atlanta Chapter Members, Museum Members and Museum Volunteers will receive special tickets at the price of $99 each. Tickets for the general public are $109 for everyone age 3 and up. (Under 3 no charge if they are not occupying a seat.) Departure location and parking is located behind the Old Southern Railway Spring Street Office Building at 285 Garnett Street SW (at the intersection of Garnett Street and Ted Turner Drive).  Departure is expected to be at 9:00 AM, arriving in Toccoa between 12:00 noon and 12:30pm for at least a two-hour layover. Departure from Toccoa is scheduled for 2:30pm, with return to Atlanta between 5:00pm and 5:30pm.  A commissary car will be included on the train selling snacks, soft drinks, and light food items.  A gift shop will also be featured on board for those wishing to purchase souvenir items.
