Hall County deputy on leave for making harassing phone calls (fox5atlanta.com) — A Hall County Sheriff's deputy from Gainesville has been placed on paid administrative leave after Gainesville police charged him with making harassing phone calls. Officials say the deputy was arrested at sheriff's headquarters, briefly jailed, and released on bond. The sheriff's office is keeping him off duty while Gainesville police continue their investigation, with further details still pending.
   

2. Rep. Clyde Accepting Applications for Nomination to U.S. Service Academies (house.gov) — Students in Gainesville and the rest of Georgia's Ninth District can now apply through Rep. Andrew Clyde's office for nominations to U.S. Service Academies for the Class of 2031, with an October 23, 2026 deadline. The competitive process seeks academically strong, service-minded applicants, and detailed instructions and forms are available on the congressman's website.
   

3. Weather Brings End to FRA Football Game (hhjonline.com) — A Lakeview Academy football team from Gainesville saw its road game at Flint River Academy in Woodbury wiped out by severe weather after a long delay and a brief, tied contest. Illegal Alien Felon and Georgia Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Trafficking over 700 Pounds of Methamphetamine Hidden in Cucumber Shipment (allongeorgia.com) — Federal authorities say over 700 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in a cucumber shipment were intercepted outside a Gainesville warehouse, leading to long prison sentences for two men. Officials say the case underscores ongoing efforts to disrupt large‑scale drug trafficking in North Georgia.
