School leaders have notified families but say they're limited in what they can share, while emphasizing that inappropriate contact between staff and students will not be tolerated.

2. Rep. Arlene Beckles Recognizes October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month (house-press.com) — State Rep. Arlene Beckles, whose district includes part of Gwinnett County, is urging local residents, businesses, schools, and governments to step up cybersecurity practices as October begins Cybersecurity Awareness Month. She highlights simple steps like strong passwords and multi-factor authentication, and stresses that recent attacks on Georgia governments and businesses show how vulnerable essential services and personal data can be without better preparation.

Loganville City Council Work Session is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 5 (monroelocal.org) — Loganville residents can weigh in Monday, Oct. 5, on a City Council work session that includes an emergency water usage agreement with Gwinnett County's water and sewer authority. The 6:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall will also cover legal services, ethics appointments, and traffic-calming costs, with a follow-up council meeting on Thursday, Oct. 8, and YouTube streaming available.

4. Prosecutors say suspect in deadly townhome shooting had gun matching bullets at the scene (wsbtv.com) — Gwinnett County police say a Virginia man accused of killing 29-year-old Ty'Shawn Frank in an August townhome shooting is being held without bond after prosecutors linked his gun to shell casings at the scene. The shooting, at a Lawrenceville Highway home used as a recording studio, sent bullets into a neighboring townhome and has neighbors worried about families and children nearby.

5. Former deputy accused of paying woman's bills to use home for crimes (fox5atlanta.com) — A former Gwinnett County sheriff's deputy already charged by Gwinnett police now faces additional rape and child molestation counts in Butts County, where investigators say he continued an illegal relationship with a girl he met online. Deputies are also probing possible additional victims and asking anyone aware of his online interactions with children to contact investigators immediately.
