Cherokee Commission Set to Purchase Thermal Imaging Cameras

A new set of thermal imaging cameras could be on the way for Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

The Cherokee County Commission is set to consider approving a request to purchase Bullard Thermal Imaging Cameras from Georgia Fire and Rescue Supply during its meeting today.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m., but will be preceded by a 3 p.m. work session. Both meetings will be held at the Cherokee County Administration Building in Canton.

The cameras are slated to cost $30,033. To pay for the cameras, the county plans to approve a budget amendment to move $22,033 from fire operations uniform fund to the fire operations capital outlay fund and accept a donation from the Ball Ground Volunteer Fire Department in the amount of $8,000. 

The cameras will be an upgrade to the county's existing cameras, and will enhance the current levels of service.

Commissioners will also consider accepting a grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety in the amount of $32,300, which would be used towards the county's DUI/Drug Treatment Court program.
