Community Garden in the Works for Holly Springs Residents
The city is moving forward on plans to establish a community garden near Cherokee FOCUS offices.

Holly Springs residents could soon have their own community garden.
The city is moving forward on plans to establish a garden, which would be located on a site owned by the city and sits adjacent to Cherokee FOCUS at 100 Hickory Circle.
City Manager Rob Logan said city crew are preparing the site so they can start building the raised planting beds later this spring.Â

Logan said the proposed layout is 90' x 110' for the garden.Â
"However, we have a little flexibility with the site, so it might be a little larger," he added.Â

Councilman Michael Zenchuk has been the force behind the community garden proposal. Zenchuk on Thursday said he was approached last year by residents who told him they would like to see the city pursue establishing a community garden.Â
Zenchuk then asked Logan if the proposal was feasible and the ball eventually got rolling.
The city council member told Patch they are still in the early stages and are still ironing out various details, such as what can be grown there and how many plots residents can have.Â
Zenchuk said the garden will most likely see success, as Holly Springs residents are part of a growing desire of citizens to grow and eat food grown in their own backyard.
Other cities surrounding Holly Springs, such as Woodstock, have community gardens and have also seen positive results.
He also said it will draw attention to the city.Â
"Anytime you have an opportunity to bring the citizens together, it’s bound to bring awareness to the city as a whole," he added.Â
