Grant to Help Care for Neglected Dogs Seized from Home

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will consider accepting a grant to help care for show dogs that were seized last year from a home in Ball Ground.

The commissioners will consider accepting the grant in the amount of $3,000 from ASPCA during its meeting tonight, which starts at 6 p.m. at the county administration building in Canton. The meeting will be preceded by a work session that starts at 3 p.m. in the same location.

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is making the request, and plans to use the no-match grant to offset the cost of caring for the dogs. 

Nineteen dogs — five Great Pyrenees and 14 Shelties – and one cat were taken from property at 585 Creighton Road in Ball Ground after the Cherokee County Marshal's Office received complaints about odor and noise coming from the property. 

Rud Tietjen, 55, a former Georgia dog breeder, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after the animals were found in various states of neglect.
