Six Candidates Want to Replace Barry Loudermilk

Five Republicans and one Democrat from Bartow and Cherokee counties qualified to run in the election to fill the Georgia Senate District 14 seat.

Five Republicans and one Democrat have all formally declared their intentions toΒ replace Barry Loudermilk in the Georgia Senate District 21 special election.

Qualifying was held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for the Nov. 5Β special election to fill the seat, which represents eastern Bartow, western Cherokee and a very small portionΒ of northeast Cobb in the Georgia General Assembly.Β 

Those qualifying to fill the seat in the Nov. 5 special election are:

  • RepublicanΒ Nicole EbbeskotteΒ ofΒ Woodstock
  • RepublicanΒ Matt LaughridgeΒ of Cartersville
  • DemocratΒ Christopher G. Nesmith of Adairsville
  • RepublicanΒ Dwight PullenΒ of Canton
  • RepublicanΒ Dean SheridanΒ of Acworth (southwest Cherokee County)
  • Republican Bruce Thompson of WhiteΒ 
LoudermilkΒ last month resignedΒ from the Georgia Senate to focus on his bid to become the next U.S. Congressman from Georgia. He isΒ runningΒ for the Georgia District 11 seat to replace Phil Gingrey, who is running for the U.S. Senate.Β 

TheΒ deadline to registerΒ to vote in the special election is Oct. 7. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday Nov. 5.Β
