Johns Creek Council Member Won't Seek Re-Election

Cori Davenport was first elected to the Post 3 seat in 2013.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- A Johns Creek elected official has decided against seeking re-election to a second, four-year term on the City Council. With a "heavy heart," Cori Davenport announced she will not be running for re-election to the Post 3 seat.

Davenport said she has been thinking about this option for some time, and decided it would be best to allow other residents to vie for the votes of citizens.

"My intent four years ago was to serve my community well and to lend my business knowledge, common sense judgment and a no-agenda approach to our city government," she said. "I have kept that promise to the citizens and to myself."

Davenport said she plans to continue her service in the community by volunteering with nonprofit organizations (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app).

Her time on the council, including working alongside Mayor Mike Bodker and other council members, has been an "honor and a privilege" she will cherish for the many years to come, Davenport said.

Davenport was first elected to the Post 3 seat in 2013. At least two candidates -- John Bradberry and Vicki Horton -- have announced their plans to succeed the incumbent on the City Council.

Qualifying for the city's Nov. 7 elections will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21 through Wednesday, Aug. 23. Along with the Post 3 seat, the office of mayor and the Post 1 and Post 5 seats are all up for re-election.

Candidates can qualify in the office of the city clerk at Johns Creek City Hall, which is at 12000 Findley Road Suite 400. The qualifying fee is $450 for each council seat and $750 for the mayoral seat, which is 3 percent of the total gross salary for the preceding year.
