Johns Creek Police: Please Don't Change Speed Limit Signs
The Johns Creek Police had to post an unusual warning on their Facebook page this week asking the public to not change speed limit signs.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — The Johns Creek Police Department is known for taking to its Facebook page to share stories of bears roaming in neighborhoods or horses on the loose. Other times, the department will post about a manhunt or kittens saved from storm drains. But this week, the department had a rather odd request for the public: don't change speed limit signs.
Johns Creek Police Sgt. Deb Kalish took to the page when she was notified of the "new" sign.
"I never thought I would have to post this, but here it goes...," she wrote. "Folks it is illegal to change speed limit signs using magic markers and construction paper."

She posted a photo of a speed limit sign on Boles Road with a piece of paper with "1" written on it that was taped over another number, making the new limit 15 mph.
As you can imagine, the comments on the post were a mix of people agreeing with the need to lower the speed and others wishing it had been increased instead.

Mellissa Marie said she agrees that it's illegal, but wants people to slow down. "I am so sick of all the speeding down roads where residential developments exist," she wrote. "But totally agree it’s wrong to alter signs."
Harold Liles said, "It’s always good to pace yourself before getting in the Daytona 400 to and from Atlanta."
Others had fun with the unusual law violation.
Mark Scherrens wrote, "I heard the speed limit signs with a white outline are merely speed suggestions."
Greg Stenger asked, "What if a magnetic number is used instead? Asking for a friend."
