Ribbon Cutting Set For Synthetic Turf Lacrosse Field at Newtown Park
Johns Creek in September began converting two fields at Newtown Park and one at Shakerag Park from grass to synthetic turf.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- On Saturday, the city of Johns Creek will celebrate the installation of the new synthetic turf lacrosse field at Newtown Park. The ribbon cutting will be held at 8:45 a.m. Oct. 21.
The city in September began the process of converting two fields at Newtown Park and the sports field at Shakerag Park from grass to synthetic turf, a project approved by the City Council in July.
The new turf fields allow upcoming sports seasons to occur with minimal disruption and will enable leagues to increase their playtime in conditions that would have otherwise been lost to rain, Johns Creek notes (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. The installation, which began in September, is being done by Field Turf USA, Inc., the same company contracted by Fulton County Schools for the design and installation of synthetic turf fields used by the school system. The new fields at Newtown Park and Shakerag Park were designed and are being installed according to the same specifications and regulations used by the school system.
The main soccer field at Newtown Park and the sports field at Shakerag Park are still under construction and will be completed in November, the city notes.
