Will Ferrell Stumping For Stacey Abrams In GA Governor's Race

Ferrell, spotted in Kennesaw, is the latest nationally prominent personality getting involved in America's most watched governor's race.

KENNESAW, GA -- Hollywood actor Will Ferrell was spotted recently in Georgia campaigning for Democrat Stacey Abrams, who is seeking to become the nation's first African-American female governor in history one week from now. Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp face each other next Tuesday, Nov. 6, in America's most watched governor's race, a contest that has drawn national dollars and officials into the Peach State.

Ferrell was spotted in Kennesaw last Friday, recruiting volunteers at Kennesaw State University. He was also seen in Plains, GA, the small southwest Georgia town that is home to former President Jimmy Carter, who yesterday called for Kemp to resign his current position as Georgia secretary of state before next Tuesday's election.

"We keep asking ourselves, how can we help? What can we do locally being in California? Should we be knocking on doors?” the actor's wife, Viveca Paulin-Ferrell, told The Hollywood Reporter. "So we’re going to go knock on doors for Stacey Abrams. You never know in Hollywood if it helps or hurts, but we’re trying get out the vote and drive people to the polls."

More than 1 million people have already voted in Georgia's nationally watched elections. According to figures released Monday by the Georgia Secretary of State, 1,188,634 ballots have been cast, with 1,052,622 cast in person at early voting locations throughout the state. Georgia has more than 7,000,000 registered voters – an all-time record – eligible to take part in this November's election.

Early voting ends Friday, Nov. 2, in an election in which Democrats are hoping that Georgia will become a swing state and a referendum on President Trump's administration. Virtually every poll show the race a virtual tie with neither Kemp or Abrams polling at 50 percent or higher to avoid a December runoff.

This isn't the first Georgia election to attract the attention of Hollywood. In metro Atlanta's 6th congressional district special election just over a year ago, Democrat Jon Ossoff was joined by Hollywood stars Alyssa Milano and Christopher Gorman in his race against Republican Karen Handel, who eventually won the seat in a runoff.

Former president Barack Obama will appear at an Abrams campaign rally on Friday in Atlanta, while President Trump will be in Macon on Saturday at a Kemp campaign event.
