ICYMI: Dog Rescued After Homeless Owner's Heartbreaking Note

Cletus, who was left with the note at a playground, found his new forever home Thursday morning.

Lawrenceville, GA — Somebody really didn't want to let Cletus go.

But the 11-year-old dog has a new home Thursday, after his former owner left him at a playground with a heartbreaking note asking for help.

The note, shared online by Gwinnett County Animal Control, tells a story of a homeless owner who can't take care of her dog any more. It reads:

"My name is Cletus!! I need a home please ... My owner decided she could not keep me any more because she does not have a place to stay. I am a very good dog. I'm 11 years old, but I still play like a puppy. I don't chew anything but food. I'm house broken. I'm great with kids. I play ball, catch frisbees and love to give hugs. Can you please help me find a home? I don't want to go to the shelter ... Cletus."

But the shelter is exactly where Cletus ended up.

He didn't stay for long, though. His story quickly picked up tons of interest online.

By Thursday morning, a Facebook post sharing Cletus's story had more than 16,000 views and 945 shares.

And, at about 10 a.m., the good news came in the post's comment section.

"Adopter was approved this morning. Yay!" read the post, from Helping Animals at Gwinnett County Animal Control, a group of volunteers who work to help find homes for animals at the shelter.
