Gwinnett Indian Restaurant Fails Inspection With a 34

Food storage issues lead to the abysmally low score.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA β€” Kerala Kitchen, an Indian restaurant in Lawrenceville, scored a super-low 34/U on a health inspection this week.

The failing grade came largely due to food storage issues, according to the inspection report.

Among the list of problems cited on Wednesday, inspectors noted dented food cans in storage and raw chicken being stored above raw beef β€” which was, in turn, being stored above raw fish.

Food was being stored in a freezer with no lids, food-contact surfaces were dirty with food debris and foods that had been prepared at least two days ago were being stored with no date marking when they were made, according to the report.

Also, an employee was seen handling raw chicken, then stirring food, chemicals were being stored in unmarked containers and another employee was seen preparing food without a hair restraint.

The report says that all critical issues were corrected while inspectors were on site.

Wednesday's failing score was quite a fall from previous inspection scores for Kerala Kitchen, which is located at 1215 Scenic Highway.

In November, the restaurant received a 96/A on an inspection and its inspection before that, in May, resulted in an 87/B.

Under standard protocol, the restaurant will be inspected again within the next 10 days. If inspectors don't find that the problems they found have been addressed, they could pull the restaurant's license while they are fixed.
