Lawrenceville Considers Overnight Street Parking Ban
It's a safety issue, city officials say.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — The City of Lawrenceville is considering a ban on parking on the street overnight.
Residents and visitors who stay parked on the city's streets could get ticketed under the proposed ordinance, the Gwinnett Daily Post reports.
The city council had a first reading of the proposed ordinance this week, but a final vote is not expected until its November 7 meeting.

Lawrenceville Police Chief Randy Johnson told the council that street parking is causing safety concerns in some areas, according to the Post.
The ordinance would ban cars on city streets from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The papers notes that Johnson stressed enforcement of the ordinance would be largely complaint-based, though officers would reserve the right to ticket vehicles if they felt they were causing a safety hazard.
At least one resident at the meeting complained that, in some neighborhoods, it's difficult for residents of homes with multiple vehicles to avoid overnight street parking.
