Lawrenceville Gas Leak Shuts Down Rock Springs Road

The roadway was closed for several hours Wednesday as emergency crews repaired a cut gas line.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A natural gas leak in Lawrenceville shut down part of Rock Springs Road Wednesday afternoon as crews worked to repair the damage.

No one was injured in the incident, in which fire officials say a utility crew digging near the roadway accidentally cut a six-inch plastic gas line.

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. in the in the 1050 block of Rock Springs Road, near Spring Brook Drive.

Gwinnett County Fire & Emergency Services crews established a 300-foot "hot zone" around the area and a repair crew from Lawrenceville Gas Company got to work stoppinging the leak.

They were able to get the leak stopped by 6:22 p.m., fire department spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said. The roadway was reopened and motorists were allowed back onto the road at 6:44 p.m.

No evacuations were needed during the operation, Rutledge said. One person was asked to shelter in place.

The utility crew had been working to install a power pole.
