Pre-K and Kindergarteners Earn Money to Buy Food for Those in Need
Pre-K classes and Kindergarten class earned $501.00 from doing chores at home - Mr. Gil matched their earnings.
Primrose School of Five Forks 4- and 5-year-old students pushed shopping carts, scanned shelves and filled grocery bags with non-perishable foods to help local families in need. The students went on a field trip to the Publix at Presidential Market Center in support of the 11 Alive Can-a-thon food drive to fill the shelves at the Metro Atlanta Salvation Army.
“The children had a blast shopping at Publix for the can food drive. They definitely learned to look for the Buy 1, Get 1 Free signs. The Pre-K classes and Kindergarten class earned $501.00 from doing chores at home and Mr. Gil matched their earnings. All in all they purchased over 900 cans for the can food drive,” said Jeanne VanEmburgh, Director at the Primrose School of Five Forks.
This donation comes when American families find themselves in critical need. One in six Americans face hunger and many turn to food banks such as the Salvation Army. According to the USDA, about 49 million people – including 16 million children – are struggling with hunger in the U.S.
