Man Charged in Lawrenceville Crash That Killed Baby, Dad

Michael Schick, 26, was drunk when he hit the car carrying 11-month-old Cameron Lowe and his father, Sean, police say.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- A man who police say was drunk during a Lawrenceville car crash that killed an 11-month-old boy and his father has been charged in the wreck.

Michael Schick, 26, of Atlanta, was booked into Gwinnett County Jail on Monday. He is charged with two counts of felony vehicular homicide and a list of other crimes, including driving under the influence and speeding.

Sean Lowe, 29, and 11-month-old Cameron Lowe were riding in a Toyota Camry that was struck on McKendree Church Road shortly before 10 p.m. on February 10.

Investigators say a 2002 Honda Accord driven by Schick failed to stay within its lane and skidded into the southbound lane of McKendree Church Road, where it struck “nearly head-on” the Camry being driven by Shana Fischer-Williams, 26.

Police had said at the time that alcohol and speed were believed to be factors, but no charges were officially filed until this week.

Sean Lowe was pronounced dead at the scene. Cameron was transported to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, where he died about two weeks later.

All of the surviving adults in the crash, including Schick, sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.

A release from Gwinnett County Police on Wednesday said Schick's blood-alcohol level was .08. That is exactly the legal limit for DUI in Georgia, although drivers can be charged with DUI for levels even lower if they commit other traffic violations.
