Police called in the GBI to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
Patch previously reported officers responded to a domestic dispute call at 138 Mission Oak Drive in Grayson around 8:30 p.m. on July 12.
“A male armed with a gun came to the location uninvited and threatened to kill everyone,” Gwinnett Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Doan said in a news alert after the incident. “The male formerly lived at the location and is the ex-husband of the female that lives there. Two teenaged children ran from the location and called 911.”
When officers arrived, the male was outside the residence and still armed.
“The male refused to drop his weapon and was shot multiple times,” Doan said. McCollum was taken to Eastside Medical Center, police said.
The police incident report indicated McCollum pointed a gun at police, the Post reported. He was shot multiple times, the newspaper said, but information on the extent of his injuries and how long he was in the hospital was not released.
