Speakers, including Mayor Lester Miller and a retired NYPD detective now living in Georgia, urged Macon-Bibb to keep victims' families and first responders in their prayers.

2. Turnovers doom Mercer in gut-wrenching 20-13 loss to Furman (macon.com) — Mercer's 20-13 home loss to Furman at Macon's Five Star Stadium came down to costly turnovers, including four interceptions by quarterback Jaylen King and a failed final Hail Mary. Despite a strong defensive showing and a go-ahead touchdown run by JP Pickles, the Bears couldn't hold on, leaving Macon fans looking ahead to next week's trip to Georgia Tech.

Former Air Force One pilot recounts 9/11 flights with President Bush during Middle Georgia State speech (13wmaz.com) — At Middle Georgia State University's Macon campus, Central Georgians marked 25 years since 9/11 by hearing retired Air Force One pilot Mark Tillman recount flying President George W. Bush on that chaotic day. Tillman described tense security decisions, emergency landings, and the emotional relief of returning home, offering Macon students a rare, firsthand perspective on a pivotal moment in history.

4. Lawsuit by Georgia College professor who says he was fired for complaining about student cheating can move ahead (13wmaz.com) — A federal judge in Macon has allowed a former Georgia College and State University professor's First Amendment lawsuit to move forward, after he claimed his contract wasn't renewed for speaking out about student cheating. While the judge dismissed his due-process and contract claims, the core free-speech issue and his bid for possible reinstatement will now proceed, keeping this higher-education dispute alive in Middle Georgia's federal court.
