Residents say owners and managers have ignored maintenance and bills owed to the Macon Water Authority, while county officials weigh renter protections and offer temporary housing and relocation help for those displaced.
   

2. As Suicide Awareness Month ends, reminders on mental health resources in Macon (macon.com) — Mental health counselors in Macon are using Suicide Awareness Month to spotlight local help, including free or low-cost counseling and crisis support. Residents can reach Macon Mental Health Matters, Piedmont Behavioral Health, River Edge, and the 988 hotline for everything from intensive programs to weekly aftercare, with guidance on recognizing warning signs in loved ones.
   

3. Deputies: Man dies after crash in north Macon (41nbc.com) — A 26-year-old Macon man died after his Lexus lost control in the center lane of Forest Hill Road in north Macon Friday evening and slid into an oncoming SUV. Deputies say a medical emergency may have contributed, and the Kia driver is stable. Anyone who saw the crash is urged to contact Bibb County fatality investigators.
   

4. Helms College opens new health services classrooms in Macon (wpganews.com) — Helms College has opened new health services classrooms on its Macon campus, launching a one-year multi-skilled medical assistant program aimed at keeping more trained workers in Georgia. With a $750,000 investment in labs and nearly 200 hours of community externships, the program promises hands-on training and entry-level jobs that can support a sustainable career in local clinics, hospitals, and rehab facilities.
   

5. Two Middle Georgia mental health providers merge as the state streamlines its safety net care (gpb.org) — A Macon-based provider, River Edge Behavioral Health, has absorbed Oconee Center's services, expanding its reach across six additional Middle Georgia counties while operating new crisis and diagnostic centers in Macon. The merger comes as the state overhauls community service boards, tightening oversight, standardizing bylaws, and measuring performance to ensure more consistent mental health and addiction care, including services inside local jails.
