BlueGrace Marietta Heads To Jamaica To Make A Difference

Slade Casey, owner of BlueGrace Marietta and 17 other men from local Georgia churches will head to Jamaica to make an impact.

For the 11th consecutive year, Slade Casey, owner of BlueGrace Marietta and 17 other men representing 3 churches are heading to Jamaica to make a difference. Members of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Mars Hill Community Church and Eagles Nest Ministries will leave on early Wednesday, November 12th and hit the ground running until late on Sunday, November 16th. They will stay at a church in the village of Haughton Grove, a very poor and needy village in the mountain region of Hanover, where in years past they have converted an old building into a dormitory style arrangement, complete with showers and running water although they won’t have hot water or air conditioning.

The men have 2 construction projects planned, including a room addition for a single mother with 5 children. This addition will take her home from 450 square feet to over 700 square foot. The second project is repairing a roof for a boy’s home in Westmoreland where over 50 boys ranging in age from 12-17 live. Slade will be responsible for helping with the concrete foundation, he is most skilled in doing mortar work with a trowel. They will serve with a local ministry that feeds the homeless in Montego Bay, supplies and brings provisions to homes where the elderly are bed bound, visit an infirmary, and supply manual labor for small projects within the community as needed. Slade is looking forward to disconnecting from his everyday life and providing others that need his help.

The trip will end Saturday night with a movie projected onto the outside of the church building for the community to come see. The kids love that the men make tons and tons of popcorn and just sit and hang out with them until the night is over. When people think of Jamaica they think of the resorts, beaches, relaxation, and fruity drinks with umbrellas. The island is 90% in poverty and closer to third world than developed. This trip brings love, joy and peace in the midst of some of the worst conditions imaginable.

“My goal is to use some of the blessings I have been given to bless others, both physically and spiritually. I am very excited about the relationships I have built over the 9 years since I have been involved on this trip. I love going back and revisiting with those we have helped in the past.” Slade Casey, owner of BlueGrace Marietta.
