Cobb County Schools Make Decision On Thursday Classes
Roads in metro Atlanta remained icy throughout the day on Wednesday, with temperatures in most areas never getting above freezing.

MARIETTA, GA — Cobb County public schools will remain closed for a second day on Thursday, Jan. 18, as metro Atlanta continues to work its way out from under a blanket of snow and ice that made roadways hazardous.
The school system, which had already canceled classes for Wednesday, made the announcement at about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Cobb schools will be closed for both students and staff "due to road and travel conditions," the school system said in a social media post.

Deal had issued a state of emergency late Tuesday for 83 counties, spanning much of north and central Georgia, urging Georgians to stay off of roads that iced up in freezing temperatures overnight.
Most areas of north and west Georgia received up to an inch of snow Tuesday afternoon and overnight, according to the National Weather Service. At about 3 p.m. Wednesday, the temperature in Atlanta was still a frigid 26 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
That meant that snow and other precipitation that hit roadways and froze never had a chance to thaw out on Wednesday. On Thursday, the high temperature is forecast to make its way up to 42 degrees, offering hope of a thaw.
