Cobb Police Officer Shot With Agent's Gun

Police say a man for whom they were serving an arrest warrant struggled with a state corrections agent, causing the agent's handgun to fire.

AUSTELL, GA — A Cobb County Police officer was shot Friday morning with a state agent's handgun while serving an arrest warrant at a home in Austell, according to police.

Cobb officers were helping the Georgia Department of Corrections serve the warrant at a home on the 700 block of Six Flags Road. According to the police department, people at the home told officers that Dvonte Whitaker, whom they were seeking, was not there.

But a state agent found him hiding in a bathroom. Whitaker and the agent struggled and, according to police, Whitaker reached for the agent's gun.
