Marietta To Host Public Hearings On Proposed Overall Property Tax

The overall millage rate for Marietta property owners will decrease so that property owners will pay less in property, said city officials.

MARIETTA, GA — The Marietta City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 28 to discuss the overall tax decrease for Marietta property owners for 2020.

The council announced its intention to increase the property taxes it will levy this year by 3.68 percent over the rollback millage rate by levying the General Fund tax rates. The same as last year. However, the overall millage rate for property owners in Marietta will decrease so that property owners will actually pay less in property taxes this year than last year, according to the city.

The budget tentatively adopted by the Marietta City Council contains a General Fund millage rate which differs from the rollback millage rate; therefore, before the Marietta City Council may finalize the tentative budget and set a final millage rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the General Fund. Because City Council voted to decrease the bond millage rate, total taxes will actually decrease by 1.14 percent.
