Marietta Museum of History to Host Remember When Club: Marietta First Baptist Church

MARIETTA - On Friday, November 22, 2019, the Marietta Museum of History is continuing its popular program, the Remember When Club, by inviting members of Marietta First Baptist Church share their stories.

Locals may have seen the scaffolding surrounding the buildings that make up the Marietta First Baptist’s campus. The church is in the throes of a renovation and repair program for their grand structures, including the ca. 1897 Chapel. First Baptist is one of the oldest congregations in our area and is a mainstay of the Marietta Square. In 1890, the future Governor Joseph M. Brown handpicked the property for the church’s “new home” because if its proximity to the Square.

Join us as a multi-generational panel of Marietta First Baptist members share their memories of the Church building, ministers, missionaries, Sunday School teachers, triumphs and tragedies. The panel will include Martha Scott, Reid Brown, George Crissey and Tracy Gukian. Other church members will be in the audience to share their stories as well.

The Remember When Club explores what life was like in Cobb County when Highway 41 was known as the 4-lane, everyday shopping was done on the Square and life was just a little bit simpler. The Remember When Club discusses a different topic each session and encourages the audience to participate by sharing their memories.

The Marietta Museum of History uses ordinary objects to tell the extraordinary stories of Marietta and Cobb County.

Cost: FREE but donations are greatly appreciated! If you would like to tour the Museum before or after the event, the cost is $5 per person.
