Citizens and county commissioners argue the city mishandled required notices, and the judge's decision could shape whether the annexed tracts are marketed together for a major industrial or data center project, potentially boosting land value well beyond a recent $5 million offer.
   

• JCSO makes several arrests (themonticellonews.com) — Jasper County deputies reported 16 arrests this week, including several Monticello residents facing serious charges such as false imprisonment, aggravated stalking, burglary, and drug offenses. Others from Monticello were booked on probation violations, battery, and contempt, offering residents a snapshot of recent local law-enforcement activity and trends in criminal charges close to home.
   

• Mom arrested for DUI while in car rider line (themonticellonews.com) — A Monticello mother was arrested on suspicion of DUI while waiting in the Washington Park Elementary car rider line, after a caller reported erratic driving on Highway 212. She faces a misdemeanor charge and a November 12 court date, while Jasper County deputies also reported several other arrests this week involving Monticello residents on charges ranging from theft to probation violations.
