Newnan Woman Sentenced to 40 Years After Child Claws Through Wall to Escape Abuse (thecitizen.com) — A Newnan woman has been sentenced in Coweta County Superior Court to 40 years in prison and 20 years' probation after years of severe abuse against her adopted Newnan son, who escaped in 2023 by clawing through a closet wall and jumping from a second-story window. Prosecutors say the now-14-year-old is thriving in a stable home and did not have to testify at trial because of the plea deal.
   

2. Teen Killed in Newnan Officer-Involved Shooting (valdostatoday.com) — An 18-year-old Newnan resident was shot and killed by a Newnan police officer early October 3 after authorities say he pulled a gun during a foot chase near Dodson Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The GBI is conducting an independent investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact investigators as the case is reviewed by the Coweta district attorney.
