Free Community Wellness Day Returns to Newnan October 10 (thecitizen.com) — Downtown Newnan will host the free 9th Annual Community Wellness Day on Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. around the courthouse square. You can explore local health resources, enjoy demonstrations, support Coweta FORCE, and visit nearby businesses while focusing on physical, mental, and family wellness in a family-friendly setting.
   

2. Southern Arc Dance Embraces Differences, Disabilities and Dance Artistry (thecitizen.com) — Southern Arc Dance in Newnan is expanding access to dance by offering inclusive programs like free classes for people with disabilities and low-cost sessions for those with Parkinson's, alongside serious pre-professional training. Run by Artistic Director Paulo Manso de Sousa and operations lead Will Slay, the nonprofit relies on grants and community support to keep tuition flexible so finances or ability never block local residents from dancing.
   

3. Eight Local Students Named National Merit Semifinalists (thecitizen.com) — A Newnan High School senior has been named a National Merit semifinalist, representing Coweta County among an elite group of high-scoring students nationwide. The honor places him in the top 1% of U.S. seniors and opens the door to scholarship opportunities, pending a detailed application, essay, recommendations, and confirming test scores over the coming months.
   

4. U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida Joins DOJ Fraud Division, SBA, and SBA OIG in Surge Takedown Exceeding $245 Million in COVID-era Loan Fraud (justice.gov) — Two Newnan residents, Earlisha and Somoza Louis, have been sentenced to 37 and 24 months in prison and lost their home after filing more than 22 fraudulent COVID relief loan applications totaling over $2 million. Their case is part of a broader federal crackdown in Florida on pandemic-era PPP and EIDL fraud involving hundreds of defendants nationwide.
