Pepper-Spraying Shoplifter Arrested in Florida

Kahala Johnson allegedly sprayed employee while escaping from Walmart on Pleasant Hill Road with cart full of stolen items on Oct. 8.

The woman wanted in a shoplifting incident on Oct. 8, during which she pepper-sprayed a Walmart employee while she fled the store, has been apprehended in Florida.

Duluth Police said Kahala Johnson, 36, of Jacksonville, Fla., was arrested Wednesday in Florida, according to news reports. Police said she fled to her mother’s home in Jacksonville.

She is expected to be extradited to face charges of aggravated assault and shoplifting, the AJC said.

Johnson, who reportedly is wanted for several other shoplifting incidents in Gwinnett, allegedly shoplifted several items at the Pleasant Hill Road store on Oct. 8, then pepper-sprayed an employee as she fled with a full shopping cart.
