Barbara's Bash Raises $150,000 For North Fulton Charities
The fundraiser honored longtime Executive Director Barbara Duffy, who announced earlier this year that she would retire at the end of 2019.
ROSWELL, GA — North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) raised over $150,000 in net proceeds to help low-income families in need at their inaugural Barbara’s Bash held at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Sept. 14. The fundraiser honored longtime Executive Director Barbara Duffy, who announced earlier this year that she would retire at the end of 2019. Duffy has worked with NFCC since its formation in 1983 and served as the Executive Director since 1990.
“It was great to see so many people come out and support NFCC in Barbara’s honor and thank her for her years of service to the community,” said NFCC Board Member and Event Chair Ted Schwartz. “This was one of the biggest and most successful fundraising events NFCC has ever hosted and the money raised will help us to support our mission to build self-sufficiency and prevent homelessness and hunger in our community.”
Duffy has overseen the growth of the organization from a leased space on Grove Way in Roswell to the purchase of the current 20,000 square foot building on Elkins Road in 2005. The new building allowed for an expanded food pantry and thrift shop as well as case worker offices. NFCC expanded again in 2010 with the formation of the Family Enrichment Program and opening the Education Center in 2012 to help families move toward self-sufficiency and financial stability.

“I was humbled by the outpouring of support from the community,” said NFCC Executive Director Barbara Duffy. “Our community has generously supported NFCC for the last 36 years and that support makes it possible for us to serve over 4,000 families in North Fulton each year.”
As the demand for services continued to grow, Duffy oversaw the purchase of a second building on Elkins Road in late 2017. After a capital campaign and renovations, the building will house client services, education, development, and administrative offices to allow for expansion of the thrift shop and food pantry in the current building.

Attendee Ehab Jaleel, Executive Director of Amana Academy added, “This was one of the best fundraising events I have ever attended! We were all winners, as our community came together for a greater good.”
Emory Johns Creek Hospital was the gold sponsor for the evening. Northside Hospital was a silver sponsor and Georgia Power and Synovus were both bronze sponsors for Barbara’s Bash.
Future Barbara’s Bash’s will honor someone in the community that is following Barbara’s example of service in the community.
