Women's Book Reviews - "Sarah's Key" by Tatiana de Rosay
Very few of the wonderful books I have read over the years have made a deep and lasting impression on me as did "Sarah's Key" by Tatiana de Rosay.

I have read many wonderful books over the years, but very few have made a deep and lasting impression on me. One such special book, the kind of book where I continued to think about the characters and events long after I turned the last page, was Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosay.
In 1942 the French government rounded up Jews in the middle of the night and sent them temporarily to a facility outside of Paris before they were ultimately sent to Auschwitz.
Sarah, a 10-year-old little girl, and her parents were part of this roundup. Hoping to protect her younger brother, Sarah hides him in a bedroom cupboard right before the police arrive. Sarah assumed she would spare him the temporary detainment and that she would release him from their secret hiding place upon her return. Of course, the return never took place.
I really loved this book and had a difficult time putting it down. I was especially taken with Sarah, the young Jewish girl who lost her family to the holocaust - and I suffered with her
through all the indignities that life brought her way.

I admired Julia, the journalist who took on Sarah's story as her own 60 years later. Julia was determined to find out the details of Sarah's ordeal, starting with the roundup of her family in Paris, through her death in the U.S. some 40-plus years later.
Along the way we are introduced to all the kind people who helped Sarah survive in a horrible world. We learn about secrets that destroy families and how different individuals piece their lives back together once the secrets are finally revealed. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an easy read despite the dark nature of its subject matter.
