Fellowship Christian Student Named Runner of the Year

Emma Grace Hurley recently earned another honor for her storybook and accolade-filled cross country season.

The Fellowship Christian School junior was recently named 2014-15 Gatorade State Girls’ Cross Country Runner of the Year.

“Emma Grace had a fantastic season,” said co head-coach Tom Harrison. “Coach Chapman and I are extremely proud of her for achieving this well-deserved honor.”

In 1985, The Gatorade Company established an award honoring America’s elite high school student-athletes. Now in its 30th year, the Gatorade Player of the Year award is in honor of the student-athlete’s athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character on the field, in the classroom and in The Gatorade Company is proud to recognize, celebrate and support the nation’s most outstanding high school talents throughout their journey to greatness both on and off the field.

Hurley finished an undefeated scholastic season with a victory in the Single A private school girls’ race at the GHSA Cross Country Championships held at Carrollton High School on Nov. 8 with a time of 19:06.78. She beat the second-place finisher by over 23 seconds.

Hurley finished seventh among 177 runners in the 3.1-mile Foot Locker Cross Country South Regional held on Nov. 29 at McAlpine Greenway in Charlotte, N.C., and earned the right to compete in the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championship at Morley Field at Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif., on Dec. 13. She finished 24th among 40 of the nation’s top runners in 18:28.
