Robert "Bobby" Spann has been hospitalized since April following a heart attack and subsequent infection.

ROSWELL, GA -- The owners of a crossfit gym in Roswell are hoping citizens will rally around a public servant on the Roswell police force in need of some community support.

Brad and Kim Trego, owners of CrossFit North Fulton, will be hosting the Roswell Police Throwdown - Support Bobby Spann fundraiser at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Roswell-Alpharetta Public Safety Training Center.

The event involves residents performing workouts designed for their individual fitness levels, Brad Trego said.

Spann, 63, has been in law enforcement for 30 years. Along with Roswell police, he has been employed with the Cobb County Police Department and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. On April 11, the veteran officer collapsed and suffered a heart attack.

However, while in the hospital, Spann contracted an infection, an illness that's damaged his digestive tract. Spann's wife, Kelly, has been on unpaid leave from work to be by his side at the hospital, Trego added.

The Roswell-Alpharetta Public Safety Training Center is located at 11565 Maxwell Road in Alpharetta. For more information, visit the event's Facebook page.
