Metro Atlanta’s Annual Bike Challenge Returns Oct. 1

METRO ATLANTA, GA — Starting Oct. 1, revamp your metro Atlanta commute with Georgia Commute Options’ month-long bike challenge, Biketober. This free and fun challenge encourages residents from across the 20 metro Atlanta counties to try biking as a commute option and experience the benefits, while helping reduce congestion and improve air quality. This year’s partner organizations include the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, the American Heart Association and AARP Georgia.

Riders earn points to win prizes in the month-long competition. Prizes include bike gear, restaurant vouchers and one of three new bikes. This year, riders who register before Sept. 30 will be entered for a chance to win an electric bike from Edison Bicycle Co., valued at $2,200.

“Bike commuting is healthier for you and better for the environment when compared to driving alone and has a positive impact on mobility in the region,” said Jill Goldberg, Georgia Commute Options’ Marketing Director. “The past few years we’ve seen ebikes grow in popularity, which has opened up bike commuting to an entirely new group of commuters who previously may have chose to drive alone.”

Last year, Biketober participation increased 10 percent, with nearly 2,500 registrants and 261,000 miles logged. 2018 riders logged more than 30,000 trips during the challenge.

Interested cyclists can register at www.ATLBikeChallenge.com, with the option to create a workplace or social team of up to eight people, join a cycling club or compete as a solo rider. Biketober participants can earn prize points for every mile ridden and every day they log a trip. Riders can also earn points for encouraging other riders to sign-up for the challenge.
