Public House To Close Dec. 10 In Roswell
The restaurant has been open for more than 10 years.

ROSWELL, GA -- A longtime restaurant in downtown Roswell has announced its plans to close later this week. Public House at 605 Atlanta Street said on its Facebook page that due to "unforeseen circumstances," it will close its doors on Sunday, Dec. 10.
"We appreciate your loyalty and thank you for a wonderful time here in historic Roswell," the company said in an uploaded message on its Facebook page.
Public House serves breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Along with its primary purposes of feeding its patrons, the company also raises money for local organizations.

According to its website, Public House originally opened in 1976 as part of the Peasant Restaurant group. It was located in a building that dates back to 1854 and was originally operated as a commissary for the Roswell Mill.
"It is one of Roswell’s most significant historical sites and one of the few area buildings pre-dating the Civil War," it states on its website.

During the 19th century, Public House also provided a general store for mill workers and a smaller area was partitioned off to become the Dunwoody Shoe Shop in 1920. The upper level once served as a funeral home.
Rumor also has it that the building is haunted by a ghost. Its website states that visitors can hear the spirits of a couple, a Union soldier and a Southern nurse who died during the Civil War, in the loft "banging on the piano or playing tricks on the staff."
"Many Public House visitors and investigators have been witness to some of the eerie goings-on here at night," the restaurant said.
Dozens of Facebook followers expressed shock and sadness over Public House's news. When asked by one follower if it plans to relocate, the restaurant said it will, unfortunately, not reopen its doors.
