The Roswell City Council on Monday approved signing a contract with Pieper O’Brien Herr Architects to perform design work on the new facility for $424,035.

The new station will be located at the corner of Old Alabama Road and Market Boulevard just south of Holcomb Bridge Road and will replace the current station at 1601 Holcomb Bridge Road.

The design contract approval comes on the heels of the Council last month approving $80,500 to fund public artwork at the new fire station.

Council members also approved a budget amendment to provide $217,500 in funding for tennis courts relocation, parking lot paving, facility cabling and security, signage, landscaping, and furniture, fixtures and equipment for the Adult Recreation Center’s therapeutic pool project.

The project is $3.9 million, with costs being covered by a combination of bond referendum funds approved by Roswell voters in November 2012, and additional funds from the Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Department.

City leaders also approved the first reading of an ordinance amendment that would allow personal transportation vehicles to operate on city streets designated with a 25 miles-per-hour speed limit.

The council also voted 4-2, with Nancy Diamond and Becky Wynn opposing, to approve the second reading of another ordinance amendment to increase the time that motor vehicles can remain parked or abandoned on public streets or upon the right-of-way from 10 continuous hours to 12 continuous hours and prohibits impeding the safe travel of vehicles or emergency access.
