Roswell To Break Ground On Phase 5 Of River Boardwalk

This final phase will extend the path to the Gold Branch Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in Cobb County.

ROSWELL, GA — On Thursday, the city of Roswell will break ground on Phase 5 of its river boardwalk project, a multi-purpose greenway that runs parallel to the Chattahoochee River. The city's event will be held at 11:30 a.m. March 1 near the Chattahoochee Nature Center.

The project dates back to 2000 when the residents of Roswell approved a bond referendum that included funding for the city to construct a seven-mile greenway along the river that would incorporate parks, trails, and other recreational and educational facilities.

Since that time, Roswell has completed the first four phases of the Riverwalk project, which included a Riverwalk through Don White Park, Riverside Park, and Azalea Park to Willeo Road.

This fifth and final phase will extend the Riverwalk to the Gold Branch Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in Cobb County.

Roswell in December 2016 celebrated the opening of Phase 4 of the project, which added roughly 1 mile to the greenway, which runs parallel to the river from Azalea Drive just at the point where the road curves off at the river, and extending to the Chattahoochee Nature Center.
