Roswell To Dedicate New Adult Aquatics Center

ROSWELL, GA -- Next week, the city and the Roswell Recreation Commission will cut the ribbon on its new Adult Aquatics Center.

The event will be held at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 at 830 Grimes Bridge Road, adjacent to the Adult Recreation Center.

All members of the public are invited to join city officials and staff at the dedication ceremony. Parking is available at Waller Park Extension at 160 Dobbs Drive in Roswell.

The Adult Aquatics Center is the latest enhancement to the city’s Adult Recreation Center, which opened in 2000 and gained a full-size fitness center in 2012. The Aquatics Center is designed to provide new therapeutic and recreational opportunities to those 50 and older as well as the special needs population in Roswell.

“To help ensure the longevity and vitality of Roswell's older adults and our special-needs populations, the city of Roswell is committed to establishing unmatched health and wellness programs and facilities.” said Morgan Rodgers, director of Roswell’s Recreation, Parks, Historic, and Cultural Affairs Department.

With its ability to reduce joint stress and provide resistance and assistance to movement, swimming is the most popular exercise among the 50+ population.

Research also shows that aquatic therapy for individuals with special needs improves fitness skills, fosters social skills and allows the individual to develop a life‐long leisure skill. The 12,000-square-foot facility will provide an unparalleled experience with its five-lane warm water therapeutic swimming pool, zero-depth entry, therapeutic whirlpool and shower facilities.

The total cost for the facility was approximately $4 million, of which approximately $2.5 million was funded through a voter-approved bond referendum.

Enhancements such as a whirlpool, aquatic features, and specialized equipment were generously supported through business and community sponsorships, spearheaded by The Friends of the Roswell Parks and the Roswell Ramblers.
